Potential for eco-moorings as management option for Marine Protected Areas - ME6010
|
Description
Eco-moorings avoid or limit the physical pressures caused by anchors and traditional swinging moorings, which can damage or disturb marine habitats and species. This study provides a review of eco-moorings experience, and an assessment of them as a management option for Marine Protected Areas (MPA), including potential funding mechanisms. This study was commissioned on behalf of Defra by the Marine Biodiversity Evidence Group (MB IEG). |
Objective
The study has two main objectives:
Objective 1: Collation of the latest evidence and information on practical issues relating to eco-moorings, through consultation with relevant manufacturers, marine managers, those involved in existing deployments and insurance companies; and
Objective 2: Analysis of realistic options for funding the on-going provision of eco-moorings.
