Management of archaeological sites in arable landscapes - BD1701

Description
This study will establish a basis for developing a management strategy for archaeological sites on arable land that focuses on where damage is most serious and which provides sustainable remediation of the problem. To be sustainable, solutions will have to be both effective in reducing the medium to long term threat of damage, while also maintaining agricultural viability. Existing literature will be reviewed to identify relevant issues, including issues affecting plough damage. Models relating to occurrence of archaeological plough damage will be created and tested to allow development of “best practice” options for management of archaeological sites in arable land under different circumstances. Finally, reports and guidance for farmers will be prepared.
