Estimating the value of a range of local environmental factors - NO0230
|
Description
There is a clear link between the state of the local environment and quality of life. However, at present it is not possible to value the link explicitly in monetary terms, making decisions on resource allocation for these areas challenging. This is further complicated by the range of factors that influence the local environment, making it particularly challenging to identify where to allocate limited resources. Defra has a responsibility to secure a healthy natural environment, a key aspect of which is protecting, and where appropriate improving local environmental quality.
The aim of this research is, therefore, to estimate marginal monetary amenity values across local environmental factors, which will feed into the building of a comprehensive evidence base. These estimates will then be used to; • inform appraisal and evaluations of national government policies in relation to each of the factors; • inform the consideration of local environmental factors for national prioritisation and forward planning ; and • provide Local Authorities with an additional resource that could be used in local decision making.
