Review of current knowledge on pesticides with potential for non-compliance under the Water Framework Directive - PS2242

Description
The Water Framework Directive has established water quality objectives that the UK is required to comply with. These objectives include quality parameters in ground- and surface water for a range of chemicals used as plant protection products and as the active substances in sheep dip. A number of such chemicals have been identified as either causing or having potential to cause non-compliance with Water Framework Directive objectives. For such compounds, it is essential to identify the pathways via which they reach water so that effective measures can be put in place to reduce levels of contamination. The Industry (Agrochemical and Veterinary Product) will be a key actor in introducing the measures that are identified as being required.

The overall aim of the project is to review current knowledge on pathways to water for pesticides identified as potentially causing non-compliance under the Water Framework Directive and promote industry engagement on identification of measures. The specific objectives are to:

1. Review current knowledge on pathways into water for pesticides identified as potential problems under the Water Framework Directive, including consideration of modelling outputs and filling of any gaps in modelling data;

2. Create an evidence matrix for each substance that links the current knowledge base to measures to address contamination of water resources.
