Effects of nutrients & plane of nutrition on immune response & non-specific disease resistance factors in fish(COMP10/92 - FC0407
|
Description
R&D
Summary Objectives:-
Establish for salmonids the role of certain essential
nutriants (Vitamins and Zinc) in disease resistance and the
effects of diet on defence systems. Key customer purpose:-
Provide a better understanding of how diet affects fish
health and enable MAFF to recommend guidelines to the salmon
farming industry, leading to a reduction in fish disease and
costs incurred by MAFF in implementing DFA. |
Objective
While a well fed fish given a nutritionally adequate diet is
a healthy fish there is evidence from mammalian studies
that certain essential nutrients have specific effects on
immunocompetence and other defence systems. Enhanced
dietary levels of these nutrients(vitamin E,A and zinc) may
increase disease resistance. The role of these nutrients in
disease resistance in salmonids will be established.
