Health of Coastal Envs: Pathological Risk Evaluation using Diagnostic & Innovative Molecular & Cellular Tools (PREDICT2) - AE1136
Description
Summary Objective:
Using biomarkers of cell injury, in sentinel molluscs such as mussels, oysters, periwinkles and coastal dwelling fish, such as flounder and dab, determine the effects of contaminants on indicators of health and reproductive success. Integrate complex data sets through process simulation models.
Key Customer Purpose:
International appraisal at OSPAR and ICES has identified several hundred chemicals considered to be of potential environmental concern. The research responds to DEFRA’s responsibilities to protect the health of the marine environment, recognises the lack of toxicological information on these chemicals and seeks to derive a comprehensive toolbox of nationally and internationally acceptable methods
