This overall aim of this project will be to publish papers from the MAFF Nitrate Conference in the Soil Use and Management journal. These papers will summarise the most important findings of MAFF research on nitrate losses from agricultural land and highlight the improved scientific understanding that underpins nitrate pollution control measures and advice in the UK. The following 5 key topic papers, summarised in the Nitrate Conference booklet, will be redrafted: Nitrate leaching from arable and horticultural land (IACR); Nitrate leaching from grassland and potential abatement strategies (IGER); Strategies to encourage better use of nitrogen in animal manures (ADAS); Development of improved advice for farmers and advisers (ADAS); and Modelling framework for evaluating nitrate losses at national and catchment scales (ADAS). The redrafted texts will be provided by each author in the format required for publication in the Soil Use and Management journal.
