Assessing hedgerow characteristics within Countryside Survey 2000 - BD1901

Description
Countryside Survey 2000 (CS2000) will record information on hedgerows and hedgerow trees. The proposed project will enhance the CS2000 database by recording additional information on the woody species component of the hedgerow and will also allow a full analysis of hedgerow trees and changes in these since previous survey dates (1984 and 1990). This will allow monitoring of hedgerows as specified in the Biodiversity Action Plan.
Objective
1. To agree a finalised methodology with the Ministry (by mid May 1998).
2. To record woody species in additional plots in CS2000 squares (by October 1998).
3. To ensure that documentation is completed so that the sample plots become a baseline for future monitoring.
4. To analyse the data to give information about the current extent and distribution of species rich and other hedgerows (in England and Wales and in major regions of each country) (by October 1999).
5. To report the results to the Ministry (by June 2001).
