A recent MAFF funded research project, NT1908, to develop a system to enable the environmental management of farms has resulted in the development of a software tool-kit. The integrated approach adopted has been widely welcomed by the industry but to enable a wide uptake and to enable the potential benefits to be realised, the software needs to be commercially available, at a reasonable cost. In addition, the software will need the information stored within it to be maintained and updated. Software sales income may provide the required amount of funding for such activities.
This research seeks to explore the dissemination/commercialisation options available bearing in mind the above long term goal. Various issues need examining including the pros and cons of various dissemination routes, costs and pricing details, legal issues of copyright etc., documentation, packaging and marketing. This short study will address these issues and make recommendations to MAFF on the various ways forward.
