Lowland deer: ultrasonic scanner studies - MS0302

Objective
(i) To investigate the applicability to deer of currently available ultrasonic scanners as used in cattle, and to explore equipment under development. (ii) To use a selected ultrasonic scanner for serial monitoring through the season to correlate results with post slaughter carcass evaluation. (iii) To monitor body condition changes in breeding hinds during late pregnancy using an ultrasonic scanner, and to relate to incidence of calving difficulty.
