EU Genetic Resources Allium project - GC0111SFV

Objective
The Genetic Resources Unit at Horticulture Research International Wellesbourne will act as the Coordinator and a project partner in the EU Genetic Resources project 020 'Protecting future European Community crops: a programme to conserve, characterise, evaluate and collect Allium crops and wild species'. The EU project, with 8 main partners will deal with the genepools of five Allium crops, namely onion, shallot, leek, garlic and chive, which are important components of economics, culture and nutrition/health throughout the EU. HRIGU inputs to the project concentrate on the seed propagated Allium crops, onion and leek, and include documentation, characterisation, regeneration, conservation and collection. Data produced during the project will be collated at Wellesbourne and incorporated in a European database management system.
