Assessment of automatic milking on UK dairy farms - DS1408

Objective
1 Survey Conduct, analyse and report a survey of management and milking and logistics on a representative sample of dairy farms. 2 Simulation Develop a comprehensive, detailed simulation model of automatic milking systems (including manual livestock handling). 3 Financial model Develop a financial model of dairy enterprises including relevant capital and variable costs. 4 Analysis Apply those models to the farms in the survey sample and prepare a report on the impact and suitability of automatic milking on those farms. 5 National impact Combine those results with data on the distribution of farm sizes and types in the UK to produce a report on the overall impact on the dairy industry.
