Soil survey input to the whole of the network (Previously CC0402) - CC0403

Description
This study will aim to provide baseline quantitative data for soils at the ECN sites established in England and Wales, against which both intrinsic changes in the soils and any effects on vegetation and fauna can be monitored. The study is intended as a long term research programme conducted on a 5- and 20-year cycle. For each of the ECN sites, the spatial distribution of soils will be identified and mapped, and soils will be sampled and analysed in a uniform and regular manner following agreed protocols. Data obtained will be made available through NERC (the co-ordinating body) as a basis for monitoring the effects of environmental changes in soils. Results of the study will provide a fundamental input into a national co-ordinated programme for monitoring the effects of pollution and climate change on the environment.
