To devise methods of improving the utilization of nitrogen in crop debris by subsequent crops. - HH1405SFV

Objective
(i) Develop comprehensive computer modelling subroutines to estimate potential availability of mineral N from crop residues for a range of user crops. Use the model to recommend practical strategies to maximise use of nitrogen from crop residues.
(ii) Determine the variation in vegetable residue nitrogen content and establish a readily accessible reference table.
(iii) Investigate the significance of organic constituents on the release of nitrogen from crop residues and determine the possibility of establishing a simple index of degradability for a range of vegetable crops.
(iv) Use computer modelling techniques to investigate the effects of incorporation method on the release of nitrogen from crop residues.
