Investigation of the components of risk in GMO agricultural releases. - RG0210

Objective 1. As part of this work a conceptual model of the environment will be chosen, developed and justified for the decision-oriented purposes of this exercise. Objective 2. Using the chosen model described above, a description of the 'baseline condition' of such a system will be developed. Objective 3. Following on from the above 2 objectives a literature search will be carried out to collect all the statements, discussion and conjectures published as to a possible 'environmental harm' from GMO releases. Objective 4. The GMO model will be constructed. This model will consist of a logic-based picture of situations which present a risk, the picture being built up of the components of risk (i.e. those things which must be true and occur together for there to be any harm. Objective 5. Having developed this model it will be used to provide a classification of critical information required in order to make more informed judgements on relative riskiness of proposed GMO releases. Objective 6. A final report will be delivered to MAFF at the end of the project.
