Age determination of oyster shells (Ostrea edulis) - MF0209

R&D Summary Objectives:- Determine the time of formation of the first annual growth line and then construct age-size keys for native O. Edulis from the Fal and Blackwater estuaries. Key customer purposes:- Improve the management of wild oyster stocks through an ability to estimate age, and an understanding of growth rates.
To improve our understanding of population dynamics of the native/flat oyster (Ostrea edulis) by discovering a method for determining age of individual oysters.
