Survey of Pb-210 and Po-210 in UK Terrestrial Foods. - RP0414

Pb-210 and Po-210 are the two nuclides that probably make the greatest contribution to radiation dose via ingestion from natural radionuclides. Present data for the UK is limited and inconclusive. To be able to provide a more balanced overview of the radiol;ogical implications to the public, the present database must be extended via a more thorough and focussed survey. Following a systematic literature review to identify the most appropriate foods to be sampled, a sampling programme will be agreed with MAFF. Samples will be analysed for Pb-210 and Po-210 and doses to members of the public assessed in the final report.
1. Production of a literature review report by 1 September 1994. 2. Derivation of sampling programme after discussion with MAFF by 30 September 1994. 3. Collection of 100-150 samples by 30 November 1994. 4. First Po-210 plating of samples by 31 December 1994. 5. Second plating of samples by 31 May 1995. 6. Final report by 30 June 1995.
