Survey of Vitamin A in liver - retail sampling - FS2810

Description
Purchase of retail samples of liver from ox, calf, pig, lamb and chicken (both home produced and imported) which will be analysed for their vitamin A content (see project FS2811). This survey is in response to the Ministry's public commitment to such a survey following the CMO's earlier announcement in 1990 concerning intakes of vitamin A by women who are, or may become, pregnant.
Objective
To obtain a statistically valid sample of poultry, lamb, calf, ox and pig livers, both home produced and imported, on retail sale in the UK for analysis for vitamin A content. The results of analysis will allow an assessment of teh effects of statutory maximum levels of inclusion of vitamin A in animal feed agreed as a consequence of the CMO's statement and assist in determining whether further action is necessary.
