Duties relating to EC Directive 91/67 on Shellfish Health - FC0506

Non R&D Summary Objectives:- Through an inspection and testing regime, monitor the disease status of shellfish stocks in England and Wales with respect to EC listed diseases and implement controls on live shellfish movements as necessary. Key customer purpose:- Fulfil MAFF's duties as the competent authority responsible for establishing and maintaining GB's approved zone status and through controls protect wild and farmed stocks from the introduction and spread of disease.
To discharge the Ministry's responsibilities as the "competent authority" in England and Wales for EC Directive 91/67. In particular, to provide evidence for the absence or distribution of List II shellfish diseases in England and Wales and establish "approved zone" status where appropriate. Investigate crayfish plague outbreaks as required.
