`Deposit licensing, export certification, & disease monitor- ing for molluscs & crustaceans (REPLACED BY FC0506, 4/93)` - FC0501

Non R&D Summary Objectives:- Undertake the scientific responsibilities stemming from the Act, including inspection, diagnosis, monitoring, health certification and controls. Advise on the incidence and distribution of notifiable and other serious disease outbreaks and provide scientific basis for control. Key customer purpose:- Ensure that MAFF fulfils licensing and other duties under the Act in order to protect wild and farmed stocks.
1. To determine the incidence prevalence and distribution of shellfish pests and diseases in order to advise on the licensing of shellfish deposits so as to prevent the introduction and spread of pests and diseases. To advise on importation and quarantining requirements, including those initiated by the EC. 2. To ensure that all imposed licence conditions are observed. 3. To provide a nationally uniform health certification service for shellfish exports. 4. To investigate crayfish plague outbreaks as required.
