IDENTIFICATION OF CONTAMINATED FOODSTUFFS AND ASSESSMENT OF INGESTION DOSES TO THE UK POPULATION - RP0307

Description
It is proposed to identify those foodstuffs imported in to the UK which yeild a significant component of the ingestion dose to the UK population. The radionuclide content of the foodstuffs will be measured, principally by gamma spec. and gross alpha assay. Emphasis will be placed upon artificial radionuclides, and enhanced natural ones, where significant. The measured radionuclide levels will be used along with dietry survey data and age dependent dosimetric modelling to calculate ingestion doses to various age groups of the UK population.
Objective
The final objective is the calculation of the ingestion doses from key imported foodstuffs to different age groups in the United Kingdom.
