Scoping study on the potential opportunities and barriers for a Soft Fruit Genetic Improvement Network (SFGIN) - CH0116
|
Description
The project will consist of three work packages (WP) to identify the status of the soft fruit industry, traits for improvement, and technologies that can be utilised as well as future opportunities for the sector, including those for novel fruit crops and the case for a soft fruit GIN: (a) WP1 Review of the literature and stakeholder engagement to identify traits for improvement; (b) WP2 Modelling the impact of improved soft fruit; and (c) WP3 Evidence-based business case for GIN. |
Objective
1. To identify the traits that if improved would have the most effect on the productivity and/or financial and/or environmental sustainability of soft fruit production in the UK. 2. To model longer term forecasting (5, 10, 20-year projections) of productivity, sustainability and quality for each crop in the soft fruit sector, as well as identify the barriers to uptake and inclusion from a soft fruit GIN. 3. To formulate an evidence-based business case for a soft fruit GIN.
