Agri-environment schemes and climate change mitigation - LM0470

The project will develop the evidence base for the impact of Agri-environment options on soil carbon and climate change mitigation. Many of the options under AE schemes contribute to mitigating climate change effects by reducing greenhouse gas emissions or increasing carbon sequestration. Previous research projects (Research into the current and potential climate change mitigation effects of Environmental Stewardship and Climate Change: Calculation of mitigation potential of new ELS and UELS options) investigated the effects of Environmental Stewardship options, and estimated scheme climate change mitigation impacts. This study seeks to update and empirically verify these findings in the context of Countryside Stewardship.
The project objectives are to 1) model the impact of Agri-environment on soil carbon and climate change mitigation, and 2) verify these results with fieldwork.
