Contribution to development of a conceptual framework for the Intergovernmental Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) - WC1092

This is a financial contribution from Defra to a larger international initiative. The Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES), of which the UK is one of 118 member countries, aims to strengthen the science – policy interface on biodiversity and ecosystem services. It will enable more effective interactions between scientists, researchers, evidence brokers and key actors in the policy making domain. The platform will aim to ensure that: scientific information is formulated in a way that is relevant and accessible to policy and decision makers; that there is greater awareness and uptake of available scientific information by the relevant users; and that any new research commissioned (by a range of other institutions) is more relevant to decision-making needs.

Outcomes of IPBES will be published on the IPBES website –
The aims of the financial contribution are to support the establishment and effective operation of IPBES, finalise the structures and procedures, ensure effective participation of developing countries and to initiate a targeted work programme.
