Pilot for a Nursery Equipment Product Service System - EV0534

Description
Concept

Product service systems provide products, services, supporting networks and infrastructure that are competitive, satisfy customer needs and have a lower environmental impact than traditional business models. In practice, individuals are able to lease, rent or share products rather than buying new. This project will apply a PSS to nursery equipment which is often bought at high cost but used for a short period of time. It will investigate and develop behaviour change strategies to support the implementation of such a PSS. This project is dependent on successfully recruiting high profile business partners.

Methodology

Engaged households will be supplied with a set of nursery equipment and associated services (advice, information, maintenance and insurance) on lease for a limited period. Once they outgrow a piece of equipment they will be able to swap it. Where possible, products will be refurbished by the business so that it can be reused by another household. The trial phase of the project will run for 18 months to allow for second generation use of the products. They will investigate the strategies needed to increase the uptake of this type of approach.
