On farm energy usage based on FBS-Farms:data collection - DO0116
|
Description
Background
1. The Farm Business Survey provides a ready made vehicle for collecting data on the energy used on farms. It already collects the financial value of farm business inputs and this project will expand that data to record physical quantities of inputs as well as data on those activities that have a significant impact on energy consumption at farm level. The FBS also enables information on energy usage and consumption to be cross-referenced with data on the financial performance of the same farm, as well as other features, such as technical performance and efficiency and farm type. This project will enable estimates to be made of the fossil fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions of farming systems and enable farms to benchmark energy usage against others.

Objective
Research objectives 3. Record energy usage of farms
The data collected by this research will be used to: (i) measure the energy dependency of farms and farming systems.. (ii) enable farms to benchmark energy usage against others. (iii) estimate the fossil fuel use, carbon balance and greenhouse gas emissions of farming systems, taking into account energy used and volumes of output produced.
