ACC Strategic Evidence Fund (ACC-SEF) UKCP09 and Communities at risk of coastal erosion - CA0104

A big part of the UKCP09 philosophy is to present climate change projections as a range of possible futures rather than as a single prediction so as to reflect uncertainty about future climate. The way in which the projections are put together and delivered is technical and complicated. This project is seeking to address these complications in some of the most vulnerable localities.
The aim of this project is to understand how best to engage with citizens, communities and the third sector in order to understand the barriers to their understanding of UKCP09 and their messages. It considers whether different communication is appropriate for different citizen segments, including the harder to reach.
The project explores and then makes recommendations on the most appropriate ways to engage coastal communities with the UKCP09 Projections and will develop and test messages and components of standard presentations/ graphics on adaptation.
