Strengthening Trans-Atlantic Research Programmes on Ocean Acidification, Commercial Fish and Shellfish (TRANS-ACID) - ME5202

The TRANS-ACID initiative will enable a group of UK, US and Canadian fisheries scientists to meet and compile a list of priority experiments that need to be conducted in order to understand the likely impacts of increasing ocean pH and CO2 levels on exploitable living marine resources (fish and shellfish).

The group will prepare a report to be sent to ICES and other interested parties outlining the future research needs, it will encourage mutual use of facilities, a reduction in the duplication of experiments, it will enable collaboration between fisheries institutes on either side of the Atlantic, and it will consider how to share responsibilities for conducting experiments, and for co-ordination of progress and results. This project was instigated following high level discussions among the Chief Fisheries Advisors in each of the three countries.
