Exploration of the relationship between sustainable development and wellbeing: Project A - SD12006

Description
The UK’s shared framework for sustainable development, “One future – different paths”, sets out principles that the UK Government, the Scottish Executive, the Welsh Assembly Government, and the Northern Ireland Administration have agreed will help to achieve sustainable development and will form the basis for policy in the UK. The UK strategy, Securing the Future, recognises that to be sustainable a policy must respect all five of the principles while acknowledging that trade-offs may need to be made between them.

This project will be a think-piece explore the relationship between wellbeing and sustainable development. It will identify a number of relevant concepts or components of wellbeing, and assess the extent to which an increased focus on each would contribute to the objectives of sustainable development, how an increased focus on wellbeing could inform decisions about trade-offs, and to what extent such a focus could be in conflict with specific sustainable development goals. The discussion could be supported by a number of scenarios or specific case studies.
