Description
The aim of this project is to assess the containability and aversiveness of different gas mixtures used for the stunning of slaughter weight pigs. The main objectives are:
-To assess the containability of 98% nitrogen by volume in atmospheric gas into a commercial dip lift stunning system.
-To assess the containability and homogeneity of a mixture of 70% nitrogen and 30% carbon dioxide by volume.
-To assess the containability and homogeneity of a mixture of 85% nitrogen and 15% carbon dioxide by volume in a commercial dip lift stunning system.
-To ascertain whether 90% argon by volume in atmospheric air is aversive to slaughter weight pigs.
-To ascertain whether 98% nitrogen by volume in atmospheric air (if it could be contained in the stunning system) is aversive to slaughter weight pigs.
-To ascertain whether a mixture of 70 % nitrogen and 30% of carbon dioxide by volume is aversive to slaughter weight pigs.
-To ascertain whether a mixture of 85 % nitrogen and 15% of carbon dioxide by volume is aversive to slaughter weight pigs. |
