Testing the condition assessment method for ancient and/or species rich hedgerows - BD2109

Description
One of the aims of the HAP on ancient and /or species-rich hedgerows is that 25% of these hedges should achieve a favourable condition. The research would field test and develop the practical application of attributes identified by the HAP Steering Group relating to favourable condition and perceived threats. The method would accommodate use by non specialists. In addition the survey would pilot modifications to the hedgerow element of the proposed for the Countryside Survey 2006. A sample of c100 HAP hedgerows would be selected from different landscape types across the UK to include principle types of species rich and/or ancient hedgerows and with a range of attributes relating to structural features, woody associations, basal flora, and trees including veterans.
