Tri-generation in the Food Industry (AFM 196) - FT1504
|
Description
the main objective of this project is to design and develop and investigate a proof of concept tri-generation system for food engineering applications based on a microturbine and off-the shelf absorption systems which will be re-engineered to be driven by the exhaust gases of the gas turbine |
Objective
· Design a tri-generation system using off-the shelf equipment where possible, a Bowman microturbine and Robur absorption units to provide simultaneously electrical power, heating and refrigeration.
· Investigate and develop `generators’ for the absorption units, so that they are driven from the exhaust gases of the microturbine rather than from the direct combustion of natural gas.
· Investigate and develop heat recovery strategies that will allow maximum recovery of waste heat for the supply of hot water.
· Investigate characteristics of individual components in the system
· Develop models for the optimum design and sizing of tri-generation systems for retail food applications.
