Acceptability of pesticide effects on non-target species - PS2302
|
Description
The overall aim of this research is to establish the ecological and socioeconomic basis for defining Ecologically Acceptable Concentrations of pesticides in the environment. The specific objectives are,
1. To produce a comprehensive literature review on current knowledge and understanding of the ecological significance of long-term risks from pesticides to non-target species, particularly birds and mammals.
2. To run focus groups with particular stakeholders and to perform a statistically robust public opinion survey to determine the spectrum of views on EACs and the socioeconomic factors that influence these views.
3. To combine information from 1 and 2 above within a formal decision analysis framework to provide PSD with a coherent and logical, yet flexible decision tool for identifying EACs under Directive 91/414/EEC.
The results of this project will enable PSD to assess pesticide risk assessments, and especially higher tier and probabilistic risk assessments, in a consistent, scientifically rigorous and defensible manner.
