National and Regional Wild Bird Indicators - EV01010
|
Description
Bird populations are considered to be a good indicator of the broad state of wildlife and countryside because they occupy a wide range of habitats, they tend to be near or at the top of the food chain, and considerable long-term data on bird populations have been collected.
The objectives of this contract are as follows:
(i) To provide annual updates to Defra of the established Quality of Life Counts wild bird national and regional indicators.
(ii) To provide Defra with assistance and suitable background material that may be required for the interpretation of the indicators provided under this contract.
(iii) To provide suitable information to assist Defra in managing the transition between Common Birds Census based indicators and indicators that include Breeding Bird Survey derived data.
