Monitoring of airborne particulate concentrations and numbers in the UK - AQ05502

AQ 17/8/392

Airborne Particulate Concentrations and Numbers in the United Kingdom (Phase 2)

This is a two-year contract with the potential for an additional two-year extension. The aim of this project is to improve our understanding of the characteristics of particulate matter in the UK. The results from this contract are used along with other information to inform policy development of air pollution mitigation options. The contract itself involves maintenance of the existing measurement and monitoring network using the analytical procedures and instruments already in place. The contractor is also asked to identify and develop new technical and geographical opportunities for measuring fine particles and to recommend and implement any developments of the measuring programme and instrumentation that Defra may decide to pursue.
