Cryopreservation of germplasm from endangered sheep breeds - MP0146

Description
Heritage GeneBank (HGB) was established during the Foot and Mouth Diseas (FMD) epidemic, to protect germplasm of endangered sheep breeds by cryopreservation. The collection, made under crisis conditions, is be be collated and linked with visual and text pedigree information for archiving into a searchable, permanent resource.

The programme addresses Government interest in conservation strategies of sheep breeds.

The resource will be of use in due course when a National Action Plan for the protection of farm animal resouces is finalised.

Objective
The scientific objective is to cryopreserve germplasm from endangered sheep breeds and develop the collection into a fully collated, integrated and searchable resource.
