Review of Livestock Nutritional Standards - LS1615

Description
This project will review the availability of information on nutritional standards for farm livestock in relation to the current needs of UK stakeholders. Since the disbanding of the Technical Committee on Responses to Nutrients in 1990, there has been no UK body responsible for reviewing information and producing an up to date view on nutritional standards. Such information is required by DEFRA to inform policy decisions in areas including animal health and welfare and pollution reduction, and by industry to form the basis of practical advice. The project management team will covene a national steering committee representing the major UK stakeholders and, under their supervision, will (1) commission a review for each of the major farm livestock species of the information currently available internationally on nutrient requirements; (2) Identify areas in which the current provision of information is inadequate to meet the needs of UK stakeholders; and (3) Make this information available to interested parties in UK government, industry and academia through a freely accessible website and national conference session. This review of the current availability, reliability and applicability of information on nutritional standards will enable DEFRA to identify current information sources relevant to inform policy decisions and to identify areas in which further review of information is required. An up to date review will also benefit the UK feed compounding and livestock production industry by providing a ready reference on sources of synthesised information.

2. To identify areas in which the current provision of information is inadequate to meet the needs of UK stakeholders
