A non-invasive alterrnative to the in sacco technique for determining extent of degradation in the rumen - LS3602

Description
The main objectives of this research project are to develop a completely non-invasive alternative to the in sacco technique, based on gas production and to evaluate the new method by comparing it with the in sacco method.

This project aims to permit a comprehensive mathmatical modelling initiative to be undertaken to allow the gas production method replace the in sacco method as the standardmethod for determining rate and extent of degredation in the rumen, thus removing need for surgically modified animals. A spin off would be that parameters determined using this new method could be incorporated in current feed evaluation systems and in more mechanistic simulation models of whole-rumen function.
