Description
There is a MAFF policy requirement to investigate the effects on animals during transport of different stocking densities and pen sizes. The stated Policy Requirement is `to develop and build and adjustable pen, with overhead recording devices to measure the effect of stocking density and pen size during transport for use with cattle, sheep and pigs`. The primary objective of this proposal is to provide enforcement officers with scientific guidance on the practical interpretation of recommended stocking densities such as those specified in WATO 97. The results from this proposed research will be definitive guidelines for the interpretation of cemmercial stocking densities of livestock at merkets and during transport.
