Life cycle and transmission requirements of the PKD organism and other myxosporean pathogens of freshwater fish. - FC1138

Summary Objective:
Improve our understanding of the life cycle of myxosporean parasites (especially that which causes PKD), focussing particularly on the identification of alternate hosts (such as oligochaetes and bryozoans) and on the host /parasite immune response.

Key Customer Purpose:
Provide Defra and the industry with details on the parasite life cycle, which will enable the control of PKD through effective management techniques and/or the development of effective vaccines.
