Sand dune processes and management for flood and coastal defence. - FD1302

Description
PROJECT CLOSING STATEMENT
The outputs of this study are summarised in a 5 part final report, delivering comprehensive assessment of sand dune morphology and processes for coastal flood risk management. The effects of changes in climate and sea level are considered to allow proposals for the evolution of future schemes, and the importance of dune systems for coastal defence is underlined. The report is intended to inform local engineers and other coastal managers concerned with practical dune management, and to act as stimulus for further research in this area.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE:
To review the current methodologies and techniques available for the management of coastal dune systems. To evaluate the effects of climate change on dunes and associated beach systems and assess the likely effects of removing hard defences to recreate dynamic dune systems.

KEY CUSTOMER PURPOSE:
To prepare a preliminary guide to best practice for dune management in the UK and identify future research requirements.
