Organic matter dynamics - CC0308

Description
Dynamics of soil organic matter, an important source of carbon for plants, are affected by agricultural practices and are the subject of concern in intensively used arable soils, both in current and future climatic conditions. This study will aim to evaluate the changes that have occurred in the organic matter content of mineral topsoils by selection and resampling of sites using historical analytical data from archives obtained from Cranfield Institute of Technology Soil Survey and Land Research Centre. Results of the study may be used in connection with research into, and validation of, models describing organic matter dynamics. The project will contribute towards understanding of organic matter dynamics in soils, while use of archive data will permit assessments to be made over a large number of years.
