Control of IBR and BVD in AI bulls by PCR on semen - OD0340
|
Description
The objectives of this research are to develop rapid and highly sensitive test for the detection of IBR and BVD viruses in semen. Both tests wil be used to screen bulls at AI centres, to see if existing control measures have correctly excluded all vius shedders. The use of the BVD test will also show if any bulls are semen positive despite being seropositive, aphenomemon that has only recently been reproted for the first time.
The relevance to MAFF policy is:
Improve control of IBR and BVD and AI centres thereby enchancing prospects for export of semen and reducing the risks of expensive disease outbreaks.
Compliance and harmonisation with moves within the EU to control IBR and BVD in relation to AI centres.
More cost-effective surveillance of AI bulls. |
