The re-establishment of dwarf shrubs on moorland previously dominated by Molinia (old BD0123) - BD1219
|
Description
It has previously been shown that there has been a considerable increase in Molinia caerulea in British uplands at the expense of Calluna vulgaris over the last 20—30 years; this has been attributed to inappropriate burning/grazing regimes and increased deposition of atmospheric nitrogen and sulphur. This study will build on previous research (project OC9418) measuring the success of control of M. caerulea and subsequent re-establishment of dwarf shrubs over the next 3 growing seasons. Results will be used to further understanding of ways in which upland vegetation changes may be moderated or reversed, as well as provide long-term information across a broad geographic base. |
