Measurements of phosphorus loss at the farm and catchment scale - NT1027

Description
This study will aim to identify and evaluate catchment scales that may be useful in future MAFF funded studies of phosphorus loss from agricultural land. The range of catchment scale data held by the Environment Agency and available as public records will be assessed, and possible new sources of relevant information, such as water authorities, will be identified. Appropriate statistical techniques for evaluation of catchment scale data will be identified in order to determine agricultural factors controlling sediment and soluble phosphorus losses. Potential catchments will be evaluated, and recommendations will be made as to potential uses of the data and the potential for further low cost monitoring using existing gauged catchments in order to validate models and increase understanding of phosphorus loss.
