Promoting WELL_N to sell efficient N use to the UK grower. - HH9914TFV

Objective
This project aims to promote the efficient use of nitrogen fertiliser in field vegetable production. The user-friendly computer model WELL-N will be used as a vehicle to publicise current advice on fertiliser use, as well as, recent advances in understanding of nitrogen dynamics in the soil.
Uptake of WELL-N and appreciation of recent advances has been slow to penetrate beyond the most technically minded growers, possibly due to lack of awareness or reluctance to embrace computer-based technologies.
This project will introduce WELL-N to growers and consultants by means of small, informal workshops and on-farm demonstrations. A wider audience will be reached by grower walks and popular articles. A comparison of these approaches will be made by monitoring the sale of copies of WELL-N.
Improved efficiency of N use, by increased awareness in general, or use of WELL-N in particular, will increase the profitabilitly of UK horticulture and reduce the risk of environmental pollution.
