Dietary flavonoids and carotenoids; bioavailability and efficiency as antioxidants (formerly AN0518) - AN0445

Objective
1.Assessing the update of flavonoids/carotenoids into the plasma after a single dose. 2.Assessing the kinetics of distribution to tissues and establishment of a steady-state, during a 4-week supplementation regime with single micronutrients. 3.Assessing the effects of supplementation on plasma antioxidant status, and on the level of oxidative stress as indicated by the amount of 8- hydroxydeoxyguanosine in urine. 4.Assessing the resistance of lymphocytes to oxidate DNA damage administered in vitro (using the comet assay), and resistance of LDL to oxidation in vitro. 5.Setting up model cell culture systems, to complement the human studies, with the aim of eliminating many of the variables of the whole body.
