Year round soft fruit production with particular regard to raspberry and blackberry. - HH1519TSF

Objective
To improve the competitiveness of extended season raspberry and blackberry production by studying factors controlling the ultimate quality (fruiting potential) of long cane of raspberry and blackberry.
The effects of spawn bed density and daylength on initiation of flowers and day-degrees of chilling to satisfy chilling requirements of raspberry and blackberry will be determined. Optimum conditions (durations x temperature x humidity interactions) will be determined.
The ultimate goal of this work will be to produce commercial blueprints for the production of out-of-season raspberries and blackberries by the combination of scientific and agronomic trialling, each undertaken by competent authorities (ADAS and SCRI).
