Provide a reliable scientific basis for the use of NIRS for evaluation of forages for ruminants - DS0104

Objective
Objective 1. To develop laboratory techniques to more accurately characterise the nitrogen fraction of grass-based forages. This would include methods for measuring the soluble nitrogen fraction. Objective 2. To determine the nitrogen degradability characteristics of a range of grass-based forages. Objective 3. To reduche the dependence on surgically modified animal through the development of enzyme-based techniques for measuring nitrogen degradability and post ruminal availability of rumen undegradatable nitrogen. Objective 4. To assess the ability of NIRS to predict the values measured in Objectives 1,2 and 3.
