To raise the UK food industry`s awareness of the EUREKA scheme and to evaluate the potential of projects for funding - FT0403

Objective
1. To raise the UK food industry's awareness of the EUREKA scheme as a potentially valuable source of funding for research into food science and technology. 2. To identify those sectors of the UK food industry, both by size and project activity, which are most receptive to the EUREKA initiative. 3. To identify specific project ideas likely to bring overall benefit/competitive edge to the industry sectors highlighted below. 4. To ascertain UK industry's current attitudes/perceptions relating to EC research initiatives pertinent to the food sector. 5. To identify any current shortfalls regarding the promotion of the EUREKA initiative to UK industry. 6. To identify areas within defined industry sectors where particular technical problems or commercial circumstances might make a EUREKA-type approach valuable. To this end the Contractor will concentrate on specific commodity areas where it has a strong industrial membership. 7. To suggest mechanisms where by Reseach Associations can increase the awareness/involvement of UK food companies in the EUREKA scheme. 8. To ascertain the potential within certain sectors of industry to develop EUREKA project and to estimate the level of Government funding required to support such projects( at a contribution level of 50% or less) for a period of 3 to 5 years.
